Hi from Welles Lobb. Enjoyed our chat and exchange of books during/after Walking Purchase Park hike on 12-27. I’ve finished “Angels Carry the Sun” and enjoyed it very much. It is a splendid novel. I was captivated by the story, so glad that by the end there was no murder, suicide, or rape — all of which I feared were coming. The crush that developed between Flora and her English teacher — for those of us who remember that 1970s and 1980s, that was a common occurrence in both high school and college and sometimes evolved into full-blown romantic relationships that could be quite public and even tolerated. Very real stuff. Obvious to me, you are a poet at your core, which is reflected in your florid writing style. I’m more a straightforward descriptive writer but enjoyed the challenge of trying to get to the deeper meaning behind your narrative. The setting for most of your novel, Bucks County and across the Delaware into New Jersey, is very relatable; I’ve spent the majority of my life in Hunterdon County and Lehigh Valley and for a year lived and worked in Frenchtown. Some of the quirkier names you assigned to some locations — Eggersville, Rum Point, Lake Lisotte — are fascinating. I loved the name of the rock band, Julius Seizure! I hope you’ll take a good look at my book, “He Was Too Young To Die,” which is quite different from yours but I continue to believe a damn good book! If you wish to comment or get in touch with, my contact info is on the card inside the book. Safe and enjoyable travels to France.
